CNN’s senior political data reporter Harry Enten reassured “panicking” Democrats on Monday that Kamala Harris has clear pathways to win the presidential election.
Enten, in an appearance alongside “OutFront” host Erin Burnett, pointed to polling that found more Harris voters — 52% — would be angry if Donald Trump won, compared to 42% of Trump voters who’d be angry if the vice president won.
He theorized that this, perhaps, could explain what he believes is unnecessary “Democratic panic.”
“I think Democrats feel like there’s a lot more on the line in this election and that’s why they’re panicking even though the polls at this point say, ‘cálmate por favor,’” he said.
Burnett had cited a recent poll by The Washington Post earlier in the segment that shows Harris and Trump in what she called a “dead heat” for Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Enten argued that the vice president could turn all three of those battleground states blue and be on the way to the Oval Office.
“So she has a very clear path to 270 electoral votes,” said Enten, before pointing to Harris’ slim lead in an aggregation of polls from those states.
He continued, “The bottom line is, I don’t understand the Democratic panic right now because the path is clear!”
Burnett emphasized that Harris wouldn’t need to win in the Sun Belt states of Nevada, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia in Enten’s scenario.
Enten said those states were mostly ones where Trump, in an aggregation of polls, held leads “well within” the margin of error. (That excludes Nevada, where Harris was ahead by less than one percentage point).

He said the four states, should Harris take them, “can still in fact” give her the necessary electoral votes to win in November even if Trump were to win Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
I tend to think the so-called Democratic panic is quite overblown at this point. Harris still has a very clear path to 270 votes… The polls show Harris basically even (if not slightly ahead) in the Great Lake battlegrounds. She also still has a potential backup Sun Belt path. pic.twitter.com/xAMSG4q4ek
